Turning AI into ROI with Rob Rodriguez, Sequentur’s Onboarding Manager
When you first meet Robert Rodriguez, you might not expect that the guy helping onboard your business to Sequenturs managed IT environment once ran a virtual reality arcade. But thats just one of the many surprising turns in Roberts path to becoming our Onboarding Managerand now, a certified expert in Generative AI for Digital Transformation through MIT.
We sat down with Rob to learn more about what drives him, how his latest certification can benefit our clients, and what makes onboarding with Sequentur different from the typical check the box and move on process.
From Dayton to Digital Transformation
Before joining Sequentur, Roberts resume read like someone who was already living in the future. After building a VR arcade in Dayton, Ohio in 2018, he worked for industry giants like LexisNexis and Northrop Grumman, plus a stint as a technician for a small MSP in Columbus. He holds a bachelor’s in Economics from Wright State University (2019), along with certifications in 3CX (2021) and Network+ (2024). In short: hes someone who knows how to build systemsand how to break them down when they dont serve a purpose.
So Why an MIT Course on Generative AI?
Im motivated by finding efficient ways for businesses to run their operations without so much overhead, Rob explains. I dont think we should be using human potential for mundane, repetitive tasks. Our brains are capable of so much more.
That belief led him to complete MITs intensive program on Generative AI, focusing specifically on its applications in business transformation. According to Rob, were still early in the gamebut the potential is massive.
What That Means for Sequentur Clients
The industries that stand to benefit most in the near term are those with high-volume tasksespecially in customer service and sales support, says Rob. But the real challenge for companies isnt if they should integrate AI. Its how.
Thats where Sequentur comes in.
Our clientstypically in that 50 to 300 employee rangedont always have the internal capacity to evaluate AI models, ensure data security, or deploy systems to their end users. We can help guide those conversations.
Its all part of Sequenturs broader mission: to offer not just technology, but strategy, security, and peace of mind.
What Does an Onboarding Manager Actually Do?
In a word: a lot.
Robs role goes far beyond turning on services. He and the onboarding team get deep into the systems, configurations, and workflows of every new client we bring on.
We gather information about the clients current IT setup, deploy our monitoring and support tools, secure the environment, standardize systems, and make sure everyone knows how to get help, he says. The goal is to make the transition feel like weve always been part of the team.
But ask Rob what his favorite part of the job is, and his answer is immediate: Learning how different businesses operate. I approach it like a macro view of a supply chain. Thats fun to me.
